General Information

What is the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program?

The Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program is a free youth program for ages 12-18 that develops leadership, citizenship, physical fitness, aviation knowledge, and teamwork through weekly training and special activities.

How much does it cost to join?

There is no cost to join the Air Cadet Program. Uniforms and mandatory training activities are provided at no cost. Some optional activities may involve personal expenses.

How often does the squadron meet?

The squadron conducts regular training one evening per week, along with occasional weekend activities and additional optional opportunities such as community events, teams, and special activities.

How old do I need to be to join?

Youth may apply to join once they have reached their 12th birthday and are not yet 19 years old.

What happens when I turn 19?

Joining the Squadron

How do I register?

Visit our Join Us page and complete an application. Squadron staff will contact you with information about the next intake and enrollment process. Our intake capacity is limited, and wait lists may apply.

Can I attend before I am fully registered?

Prospective cadets are often welcome to attend a training night to see what the Air Cadet Program is all about. Contact the squadron for details, requirements, and to arrange a visit.

What should I wear on my first night?

Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe footwear. A uniform will not be issued until after enrollment and initial processing. Cadets without uniforms are encouraged to wear a white shirt and black pants, but this is not required.

How long does it take to receive a uniform?

Uniform issuance depends on sizing availability and supply timelines. Please be patient, as uniforms must be ordered and issued through the national supply system.

Can I join after the training year has started?

Yes. New cadets may join throughout much of the training year, subject to available space and enrollment capacity.

Attendance

What should I do if I cannot attend a training night?

Cadets should advise their chain of command as soon as possible by following the squadron's attendance reporting procedure found in the Flight Plan.

Can parents report an absence?

Parents may assist younger cadets, but cadets are encouraged to take responsibility for communicating absences whenever possible.

What happens if I miss several training nights?

Staff may contact the cadet and family to confirm continued interest in the program and discuss any support required to return.

Do I need a Leave of Absence?

If you expect to miss three or more consecutive training nights, please contact the Commanding Officer to discuss a Leave of Absence. This helps reduce the need for multiple absence reports and allows the squadron to maintain accurate attendance records.

Uniforms

When will I receive my uniform?

Uniforms are generally issued after enrollment is complete and sizing information has been collected. Initial uniform items are typically issued approximately 45 days after enrollment, with dress uniforms often arriving later through the national supply system. Timelines vary based on item availability and squadron stock.

What if my uniform no longer fits?

Speak with your section staff or supply staff. Adjustments or replacement items can often be arranged. Make sure to submit the Supply Request Form.

What should I do if a uniform item is damaged or missing?

Report the issue to your section staff and supply staff as soon as possible.

Cadet365

What is Cadet365?

Cadet365 is the official Microsoft 365 platform used by the Cadet Program for communication, collaboration, training resources, and online meetings.

Who can access Cadet365?

Cadet365 accounts are issued to cadets. Parents do not receive Cadet365 accounts.

Why can't my parent see Cadet365 content?

Cadet365 is intended for cadet use. Parents receive information through squadron communication channels that do not require a Cadet365 login.

I can't access my Cadet365 account. What should I do?

Contact squadron staff for assistance with password resets or account access issues. You will be asked to provide an email address to receive a temporary password. Password reset requests typically take 24-48 hours to process.

Flying and Training Opportunities

Will I get to fly?

Most cadets will have opportunities to participate in familiarization flying. Flying activities are dependent on aircraft availability, weather conditions, and operational requirements, so timelines may vary. We work hard to provide every cadet with the opportunity to get airborne as soon as possible.

Can I earn my pilot licence through cadets?

Qualified cadets may apply for national flying scholarship programs. Selection is highly competitive and based on established criteria.

What other activities are available?

Cadets may participate in leadership training, aviation activities, sports, music, drill, effective speaking, marksmanship, biathlon, community service, and summer training opportunities.
